Sea Girt Homework Club
Provided an outlet for younger elementary students to learn in an encouraging environment through free tutoring.
During my junior and senior years of high school, I dedicated my Tuesdays and Thursdays to volunteering at Sea Girt Elementary School, helping students from grades K-8 with their homework. Wanting to make a lasting impact, I founded the Homework Helper Club, bringing together high school students to tutor younger kids and provide academic support. Over time, the program grew into a vital resource for both students and parents, easing homework-related stress and fostering confidence in learning.
One of the most rewarding aspects was hearing directly from parents and teachers about the difference we were making—whether it was my former elementary school teacher thanking me for reducing students' anxiety or local parents asking when we’d start up again each year. While I initially started this club as a way to give back, it quickly became something much greater. Seeing these kids grow academically while also building connections with them made every session meaningful.
